Pretty much all 3 wire alternators come with a wiring diagram to explain where the 1 and 2 wires go. If your ignition switch has an 'Accessory' position and terminal, connect the idiot light to that instead of the 'ignition' terminal.

At the time of this writing it still serves as a daily driver. Jun 24, Posts: Some guys go the extra mile and put a resistor in-parallel with the bulb, so the circuit still functions if the light bulb burns out, but I am too lazy to figure out which one, so I carry a spare bulb. The fans are not needed at cruise speed, and it really does save horsepower not to pull a fan on the water pump.
